Hand-built tarot decks go back to 15th-century Italy, cards painted for rich families, each one its own small world of medieval imagery. Since then, different people across time have put their own spin on them, creating new versions with new images and ideas, pulled from new worlds. This project focuses on one card at a time: each one reuses the same little theatre frame, but the world inside keeps evolving, adding costumes, props, backgrounds, rips and tears. Every frame is shot and stitched together until the card comes to life.
This is a slow, ongoing project. Follow along as the deck fills in.
